Bengaluru hosts an international dam safety conference to enhance dam safety across India, with major upgrades underway in Karnataka and national support.
Bengaluru will host a two-day International Dam Safety Conference on February 13-14, organized by Karnataka and the Union Ministry of Jal Shakti.
The event, marking the state government’s 1,000-day milestone, will feature 46 research papers, technical sessions, and participation from over 400 attendees, including 25 international experts.
Karnataka is investing ₹1,500 crore to upgrade 58 dams, including work on the Tungabhadra dam’s crest gates, as part of the national Dam Rehabilitation and Improvement Project, which has seen over ₹10,200 crore spent on 733 dams across 19 states with support from the World Bank and AIIB.
The conference aims to strengthen safety for irrigation, power, flood control, and water supply.
