Archbishop-elect Richard Moth has criticized billionaire Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s immigration comments, calling them “deeply unhelpful” and harmful, while expressing concern over rhetoric that dehumanizes migrants.
Though acknowledging border protection needs, Moth rejected broad generalizations and condemned both past and present government policies housing asylum seekers in hotels and poorly maintained military accommodations.
He urged a more compassionate, sustainable approach and emphasized the Catholic Church’s role in promoting justice and empathy without political alignment.
Moth will be formally installed as Archbishop of Westminster this weekend, succeeding Cardinal Vincent Nichols after 16 years.
