The University of West Florida broke ground on Darrell Gooden Stadium in Pensacola on February 11, 2026, launching a $9 million project to nearly double seating capacity from 3,800 to 7,500.
The stadium, set to open in Fall 2027, will feature premium seating, suites, a large LED video board, and flexible event space.
Funded by private donations, including a lead gift from Darrell Gooden, and a $2 million grant from Escambia County’s Tourist Development Council, the project is expected to generate $23.3 million in regional economic output over five years.
University leaders say the facility will boost recruiting, elevate the athletics program, and strengthen community ties.
The Argonauts will continue playing home games during construction.
