Syracuse AD John Wildhack is retiring after 10 years, overseeing major upgrades, academic success, and a men’s soccer national title.
Syracuse athletic director John Wildhack is retiring July 1 after a decade leading the university’s athletics program.
A 1980 Newhouse graduate, Wildhack returned to his alma mater in 2016 after 36 years at ESPN.
He oversaw major facility upgrades, including the JMA Wireless Dome and Lally Athletics Complex, and helped achieve top academic progress rates.
Under his leadership, Syracuse won a national title in men’s soccer and saw success across multiple sports.
Wildhack also served on the NCAA Division I Men’s Basketball Committee and chaired the ACC Athletic Directors.
His departure coincides with Chancellor Kent Syverud’s upcoming move to the University of Michigan, and a search for his successor is underway.
