The Settle-Carlisle Railway is celebrating its 150th anniversary of passenger service with a photography competition called “Connecting Communities,” inviting submissions of images capturing the 72-mile scenic route.
Organized by the Settle Carlisle Railway Development Company, the contest highlights the line’s role in connecting communities and supporting tourism and sustainable travel.
The railway, recognized as Europe’s best scenic route by Lonely Planet and a top global attraction by TripAdvisor, continues to serve both commuters and visitors.
The winner will receive first-class dining tickets on a steam charter, and 12 entries will be featured in the 2027 calendar.
The event is part of a year-long series of activities including a passport program, a new play, walking festivals, and art projects.
