Romon Haque, 38, was sentenced to 22 years in prison and six years on licence for attempting to murder nurse Acheema Cherian at Royal Oldham Hospital on January 11, 2025.
Haque, admitted under the Mental Health Act during drug and alcohol withdrawal, stabbed Cherian—20 years a nurse—three times with concealed scissors after she denied him methadone.
She suffered severe, permanent injuries, including hand damage and lasting psychological trauma, and nearly lost her life.
Though Haque was experiencing psychosis, the court found him criminally responsible.
He pleaded guilty to possessing a bladed weapon and was convicted of attempted murder at trial.
Sentencing occurred on February 11, 2026.
