New Zealand doubles conservation funding to $9.2M for community projects protecting threatened species and ecosystems.
New Zealand’s Department of Conservation is launching a $9.2 million funding round for community-led conservation projects, doubling the usual annual amount.
Applications open March 31, 2026, and close April 30, with funds supporting efforts to protect threatened species and ecosystems.
The initiative, part of the DOC Community Fund, aims to address the country’s biodiversity crisis, where over 1,000 native species and nearly two-thirds of rare ecosystems are at risk.
Since 2014, the fund has awarded about $50 million to more than 750 projects.
Successful applicants will be announced starting July 2026.
