New Zealand approves $101M for Auckland’s Eastern Busway, set to open in 2027 with 5 stations and improved transit access.
New Zealand has approved $101 million in funding for the final section of Auckland’s Eastern Busway, with construction set to begin in March 2026.
The 7km busway from Pakuranga to Botany Town Centre will include five new stations, the Reeves Road Flyover, and 12km of walking and cycling paths.
Expected to open in 2027, it will reduce travel time to the city center to about 40 minutes and carry 18,000 passengers daily by 2028, rising to 24,000 by 2048.
The project, funded jointly by the national government and Auckland Council, will integrate with the City Rail Link and future Airport to Botany Busway, improving access to jobs and services.
Work will proceed along Tī Rākau Drive with temporary traffic shifts to maintain two lanes in each direction.
