Aotearoa artist Theia has released "Holy War II," a reimagined track for the Māori Gothic film *MĀRAMA*, which premiered at TIFF 2025 and has screened at international festivals.
Co-written with Karl Steven, the song features Māori female soprano vocals and explores themes of colonial trauma, identity, and female solidarity.
Directed by Taratoa Stappard, the film follows a young Māori woman’s journey to reclaim her heritage in Victorian-era North Yorkshire.
Theia’s ethereal, Indigenous-influenced music enhances the film’s emotional depth, supported by New Zealand’s Film Commission and NZ On Air.
The film is now screening nationwide, and Theia is touring Aotearoa in February and March 2026.
