Chinese snowboarder Liu Jiayu, 33, suffered a severe fall during the women’s halfpipe qualification at the 2026 Winter Olympics in Livigno, Italy, on February 11, crashing headfirst after catching an edge on her final jump.
She was stretchered off the course and treated on-site for approximately 10 minutes, with medical personnel confirming no spinal injury.
Liu, a five-time Olympian and 2018 silver medalist, remained conscious and was taken to a medical facility for further evaluation, where imaging showed no abnormalities in her spine.
She sustained a head injury and did not finish the run, ending her Olympic competition.
American Chloe Kim led qualifying and advanced to the final.
No further details about her recovery were released.
