A Feb. 2, 2026, crash in Madoc, Ont., involving an ambulance and an 18-wheel truck injured two Hastings-Quinte paramedics, Mya Nichols and Zoraiz Rehman. Nichols remained in intensive care at Kingston Health Sciences Centre with improving condition, while Rehman was released Feb. 4 and is recovering at home. The ambulance had no patients and was returning from standby duty in Bancroft. Multiple emergency crews responded, and Central Hastings OPP are investigating. A fundraising campaign by CUPE Local 1842 raised over $268,000 by Feb. 11, surpassing its $300,000 goal to support the paramedics’ recovery.
