A 17-year-old was shot in Southwest Philadelphia early Tuesday morning after allegedly attempting to break into a car belonging to an off-duty sheriff’s officer and his son.
The incident occurred around 3:30 a.m. on the 7300 block of Bunting Place, where the officer and his son fired four shots, striking the teen twice in the legs.
The suspect fled in a vehicle, was found at Penn Presbyterian Medical Center with tools used for car theft, and is in stable condition.
Investigators found evidence of recent break-in damage and recovered stolen items.
Both the officer and the family member involved have valid firearm permits and are cooperating with authorities, who are reviewing surveillance footage and towing the suspect’s vehicle for evidence.
The incident is under investigation.
