Penrith Mountain Rescue Team trained in harsh Northern Cairngorm conditions to sharpen winter rescue skills.

The Penrith Mountain Rescue Team conducted a two-day winter training exercise in the Northern Cairngorms on February 7 and 8, 2026, under harsh conditions with deep snow and strong winds. The drills focused on critical mountain rescue skills, including snow belaying, avalanche searches using transceivers and probes, and lowering casualties on stretchers using rope systems and snow anchors. Trained with professional winter mountaineering instructors, team members practiced realistic scenarios to maintain readiness for winter emergencies in the Lake District and surrounding areas. The event was described as demanding yet rewarding, with support from volunteers and local suppliers.
