A judge blocked Pinal County’s 287(g) immigration deal, citing lack of board approval, halting its implementation.
A Pinal County judge has temporarily blocked a 287(g) immigration enforcement agreement between County Attorney Brad Miller and ICE, ruling it was entered without approval from the Board of Supervisors.
The board, which voided the deal on January 30, asserts only the sheriff can authorize such agreements.
The judge’s order halts implementation and sets a hearing for February 25.
The board has sued Miller’s office, alleging misuse of funds and improper record-keeping, and requested an investigation by Arizona Attorney General Kris Mayes.
Miller, a vocal critic of illegal immigration, maintains the agreement targets criminal offenders.
