India's unemployment rate fell to 4.8% in October-December 2025, down from 5.2% in the prior quarter, with declines in both rural (4% from 4.4%) and urban (6.7% from 6.9%) areas.
The labor force participation rate rose to 55.8%, and the worker population ratio improved to 53.1%.
While employment increased, the share of salaried jobs declined to 24.9%, and self-employment rose to 56.3%, with agriculture becoming a larger part of the workforce, especially in rural areas.
