India has launched its 2026 Mass Drug Administration campaign to eliminate lymphatic filariasis by 2027, targeting 124 districts across 12 states with annual drug rounds of DEC and Albendazole for people over two, excluding pregnant women and those with severe illnesses.
The initiative, led by Union Health Minister Jagat Prakash Nadda, focuses on improving compliance through direct observation, community engagement, and leveraging Ayushman Arogya Mandirs for early detection and hydrocele surgeries under the Ayushman Bharat scheme.
While 143 districts have stopped MDA after meeting elimination criteria, 174 continue due to ongoing transmission, with the campaign aiming to overcome challenges in remote areas and strengthen surveillance, especially during monsoon months.
