India, Naga groups, and Nagaland signed a deal Feb. 5, 2026, creating a new authority for eastern Nagaland amid ongoing peace efforts.
On February 5, 2026, India, the Eastern Naga People’s Organisation, and Nagaland’s government signed a tripartite agreement establishing the Frontier Nagaland Territorial Authority (FNTA), hailed as a step toward addressing long-standing grievances in eastern Nagaland.
The Working Committee of the Naga National Political Groups called it a “timely correction” of historical injustices and emphasized the need for transparent implementation, while noting the broader Indo-Naga political issue remains unresolved despite a 2019 agreement covering Naga regions across four states.
The Central Nagaland Tribes Council praised the deal as a landmark achievement for peace and development.
