The House Ways and Means Committee held a hearing on Tuesday examining allegations that tech entrepreneur Neville Roy Singham, who resides in China, operates a network of U.S. tax-exempt nonprofits linked to the Chinese Communist Party.
Committee Chair Jason Smith accused Singham of using groups like BreakThrough News, Tricontinental, and the People’s Forum to promote pro-CCP narratives, including pro-Hamas rhetoric after October 7, 2023, and questioned their tax-exempt status due to ties to foreign government-linked institutions and funding from foundations connected to Singham.
Smith demanded documents from the organizations, which have not responded, and highlighted concerns over opaque financial flows and foreign influence in American civil society.
The investigation remains ongoing.
