A Hindu businessman was fatally stabbed in Bangladesh ahead of the general election, sparking fears over rising religious violence.
A 62-year-old Hindu businessman, Susen Chandra Sarkar, was fatally stabbed in his shop in Trishal, Mymensingh, Bangladesh, on February 9, 2026, just days before the country’s general election.
Authorities reported the attack occurred around 11 p.m., with assailants fleeing after closing the shop’s shutters and stealing money.
His body was found by family members, and he was pronounced dead at Mymensingh Medical College Hospital.
Police have not identified suspects or determined a motive.
The killing is part of a recent surge in violence against Bangladesh’s Hindu minority, including a December 2025 lynching and other attacks, raising concerns about religious safety ahead of the election.
