Ghana has declared every Wednesday as "Fugu Day," urging citizens and supporters worldwide to wear the traditional Fugu or Batakari attire to promote cultural heritage, strengthen national identity, and boost the creative economy.
Announced by Minister Abla Dzifa Gomashie, the initiative supports local weavers, designers, and artisans, creating jobs and fostering unity.
Separately, Education Minister Haruna Iddrisu proposed a similar "Our Day" in schools, encouraging students to wear traditional clothing reflecting their ethnic backgrounds, aiming to deepen cultural awareness among youth and preserve Ghana’s diverse traditions.
