Former prosecutor Joe Thompson joins Don Lemon’s defense team in federal civil rights case tied to protest at St. Paul church.
Former federal prosecutor Joe Thompson, who resigned last month over disagreements with the Trump administration’s immigration policies, has joined the legal team for former CNN host Don Lemon, one of nine people indicted for disrupting a church service in St. Paul where an ICE official served as pastor.
Lemon, who says he was covering the event as a journalist, plans to plead not guilty to federal civil rights charges and is set to appear in court on February 13.
The case is part of a broader federal investigation into fraud cases in Minnesota, many involving members of the Somali community, which the administration has used to justify immigration enforcement.
Thompson, who previously led major fraud prosecutions in the state, now co-leads a new law firm with former prosecutor Harry Jacobs.
