Canada recalls Al Kanater Halawa with Pistachio over salmonella risk; no illnesses reported.
The Canadian Food Inspection Agency has recalled Al Kanater brand "Halawa with Pistachio" due to possible salmonella contamination. The 450-gram product, with UPC 6 92551 00006 8 and best before date of March 12, 2027, was distributed nationwide, including through retailers like Giant Tiger and Amazon. The recall was prompted by test results, though no illnesses have been reported. Symptoms of salmonellosis include fever, diarrhea, nausea, vomiting, stomach cramps, and headache, appearing within six to 72 hours and lasting four to seven days, with some cases requiring hospitalization. Consumers are advised not to consume, sell, serve, or distribute the product. Health Canada and CFIA encourage reporting food safety concerns online.
