Boston Dynamics CEO Robert Playter is leaving after six years, as Hyundai accelerates commercial use of its robots like Spot and Atlas.
Boston Dynamics CEO Robert Playter is stepping down after six years and over three decades with the company, with his final day on February 27.
The departure, announced in a staff memo, comes as Hyundai Motor Group, which acquired Boston Dynamics in 2021, pushes for greater commercialization of its robotics technology.
Playter, who helped transform the company from a research lab into a leader in mobile robotics, will be succeeded by CFO Amanda McMaster as interim CEO.
The move signals Hyundai’s intensified focus on integrating Boston Dynamics’ innovations—like the Spot and Atlas robots—into real-world industrial applications, with Atlas expected to debut in manufacturing by 2028.
