Bay City has received $959,000 in federal funding to clean up PFOS contamination at Fire Station No.

The grant, secured through U.S. Sen. Gary Peters’ office, will support excavation, demolition, and remediation efforts to address contamination that began in 2019 and affects surrounding soil, groundwater, and the city’s sewer system.
Officials say the project is critical for protecting public health, firefighters, and the environment, while also addressing operational challenges from aging infrastructure and high emergency call volume.
The city continues working with federal and state partners on the cleanup and long-term solutions for emergency services.
