UAMS gets $40M federal grant to reduce Arkansas’s high maternal and infant death rates.
The University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences (UAMS) has received a $40 million federal grant, approved by President Donald Trump on February 3, 2026, to combat Arkansas’s high maternal and infant mortality rates.
The funding, championed by Senator John Boozman, will support expanded prenatal and postpartum care, improve healthcare provider training, and enhance outreach programs like the “I Gave Birth Bracelet” initiative.
Funds will also renovate key facilities, including a low-intervention birthing center, a maternal and infant education center, and a Bridge to Translational Research hub, while upgrading medical equipment and patient transport services.
The investment aims to strengthen healthcare access in underserved and rural areas across the state.
