Two Michigan men convicted of fraudulently blocking five GOP gubernatorial candidates in 2022 using forged signatures.
Shawn Wilmoth and Willie Reed were convicted in Michigan of orchestrating a scheme that used forged signatures to block five Republican gubernatorial candidates, including James Craig and Perry Johnson, from qualifying for the 2022 primary ballot.
The fraud, uncovered after a review of petition documents revealed duplicated and illegible signatures, involved over $700,000 in payments to companies linked to the defendants.
Prosecutors said the scheme deprived voters of a genuine choice, while defense attorneys claimed the defendants were also victims.
Jamie Wilmoth-Goodin was acquitted.
Sentencing is set for March 18, 2026.
