A Toronto judge has blocked Les Ailes de la Mode from leasing the former Hudson’s Bay space at Yorkdale Shopping Centre, ruling the deal lacked commercial soundness and would harm the mall’s upscale image. The decision, backed by mall owner Oxford Properties, cited concerns over the retailer’s financial stability and down-market reputation. Oxford praised the ruling, while RioCan, which holds a $75 million mortgage on the lease, had supported the plan, citing Fairweather Ltd.’s experience and brand partnerships. The space could revert to Oxford by August if no new tenant is found.
