Suzuki’s new Across plug-in hybrid SUV, based on the Toyota RAV4, launches in Australia amid stricter emissions rules, offering strong performance and tech.
The new Suzuki Across plug-in hybrid SUV has been unveiled, sharing its design and technology with the Toyota RAV4, effectively making it a rebadged version.
It features a 2.5-liter turbo-petrol engine, two electric motors, and a 22.7kWh battery, delivering 225kW and 0-100km/h acceleration in 6.1 seconds with standard all-wheel drive and an estimated 100km electric range.
The Across includes a digital instrument cluster, 12.9-inch touchscreen, head-up display, and heated, power-adjustable seats, along with safety features like automatic emergency braking and a 360-degree camera.
While previously available only in Europe, its launch in Australia is now more likely due to the country’s New Vehicle Efficiency Standard, which penalizes high-emission vehicles.
Suzuki Australia has not confirmed plans, but the model would compete with the Hyundai Tucson, Kia Sportage, and Mazda CX-5 as a plug-in hybrid option.
