Robert Smullen alleges unpaid tax liens against GOP rival Anthony Constantino in NY-21 race, sparking legal threats ahead of June primary.
The Republican primary race for New York’s 21st Congressional District has intensified as Assemblyman Robert Smullen alleges unpaid tax liens against his opponent, Sticker Mule CEO Anthony Constantino, including a $1,814 Ohio judgment from 2023.
Constantino’s legal team demanded Smullen retract the claims by February 10, threatening defamation lawsuits, while Constantino said he was unaware of the Ohio lien and noted company audits had addressed tax issues.
Smullen, who has a 2018 felony conviction for falsifying tax exemptions, dismissed the threats, calling the claims factual and public.
The candidates will face off in the June 23 primary to replace Rep. Elise Stefanik, who is not running for re-election.
