Belfast Council delays decision on ending concerts at Boucher Road, citing economic and cultural concerns, with 2026–2027 events still planned.
Belfast City Council has postponed its decision on ending major concerts at Boucher Road Playing Fields, delaying plans to convert the 40,000-capacity venue into sports pitches after 2027.
The move follows opposition from Alliance, Green, and SDLP councillors who warn of significant economic losses—up to £10 million per event weekend—and the risk of harming Belfast’s cultural and tourism reputation.
While some council members support the shift to sports and resident concerns, others argue for a dual-use model and better alternatives.
The matter will return to the Strategic Policy and Resources Committee for further review, including assessing replacement venues and economic impacts.
Concerts for 2026 and 2027 are still expected to proceed.
