UK biotech finds toxic blood exosomes linked to ALS, developing treatment and early-detection test.
UK biotech Vesalic Limited has revealed a breakthrough linking ALS to a systemic metabolic dysfunction, identifying toxic exosomes with abnormal lipids in the blood that damage neurons.
The company is developing a therapy to neutralize these toxins, with preclinical studies ongoing and a 2027 clinical trial filing planned.
It also created a blood test detecting ALS with over 90% accuracy by spotting unique lipid changes in exosomes, enabling early diagnosis and treatment monitoring.
The platform is being expanded to Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s disease.
