In the trial of Paul Caneiro, jurors heard grim autopsy details from the 2018 killings of four family members in Colts Neck, including two children.
The state’s Acting Chief Medical Examiner, Alex Zhang, testified that 8-year-old Sophia Caneiro died from multiple stab wounds, smoke inhalation, and a 49% carbon monoxide level, while her father, Keith, had five gunshot wounds, including three to the head.
Eleven-year-old Jesse and mother Jennifer also died from stab wounds, soot in the airway, and smoke inhalation.
Prosecutors say financial desperation and a $3 million life insurance policy drove the killings.
