He confirmed 4,700 deportation orders in 2025, a 96% increase, with 2,111 people having left—mostly voluntarily—though the government cannot verify the status of 2,589 others due to lack of exit checks.
To cut costs, Ireland is buying properties like the Citywest Hotel, expanding state-owned housing from 900 to 4,000 spaces, with savings expected to recoup the €148.2 million purchase in four years.
No new purpose-built centers are planned, but other buildings may be used, with the current budget supporting about 33,000 spaces.
