Gujarat advanced urban sustainability in 2025 with major gains in water harvesting, tree planting, green spaces, solar energy, wastewater reuse, and waste management.
Gujarat made significant progress in urban sustainability during its 2025 Urban Development Year, expanding rainwater harvesting by nearly 4.19 lakh kilolitres through 2,900 new systems, planting 90 lakh trees toward a 99 lakh goal, and developing over 240 hectares of green spaces.
The state completed 54 of 140 lake redevelopment projects, advanced over 285 solar energy initiatives, and launched 20 treated wastewater reuse projects providing 656 million liters daily.
Clean Air Action Plans were finalized for all municipal corporations, and 281.8 million metric tonnes of legacy waste—93% of identified waste—were scientifically managed, with full disposal targeted by March 2026.
Over 1,823 sanitation and waste management projects worth ₹2,756 crore were approved, including cleanup of 1,533 high-risk garbage zones.
