A two-vehicle crash on February 7, 2026, at the intersection of U.S. 61 and I-55 in New Madrid County, Missouri, injured five people, including two children and three adults. A 19-year-old Caruthersville woman driving a Kia Optima collided with a 2013 Chevrolet Sonic driven by a 34-year-old New Madrid woman, resulting in both vehicles being totaled. The Kia driver sustained serious injuries and was taken to St. Francis Medical Center. The Chevrolet Sonic driver was airlifted to an out-of-state hospital, and four occupants, including two children and two adults, were treated for minor to moderate injuries. No fatalities occurred, and the cause remains under investigation.
