BJP's Manjusha Nagpure elected Pune mayor unopposed Feb. 9, 2026, after opposition withdrawals.
BJP corporator Manjusha Nagpure was elected unopposed as Pune mayor on February 9, 2026, after opposition candidates from the NCP and Congress withdrew their nominations.
The move followed an appeal by BJP leader Ganesh Bidkar to honor the recent passing of Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar and former Union Minister Suresh Kalmadi.
Parshuram Wadekar of the Republican Party of India (Athawale) was also elected unopposed as deputy mayor.
The BJP emerged as the single-largest party in the Pune Municipal Corporation elections, securing 119 of 165 seats, and highlighted its commitment to women’s representation by fielding 92 female candidates.
The party also indicated willingness to share 16 seats with Shiv Sena in Pune.
