Amherst girls swim second at MIAA Central/West Champs; several advance to state.
The Amherst Regional girls swimming team placed second at the MIAA Central/West Championships with 248 points, led by Rowan Albertson’s second-place finishes in the 50-yard freestyle and 100-yard backstroke, and contributions from teammates in relay wins.
The Orioles finished fifth, the Blue Devils 15th, and the Eagles 16th, with top performers advancing to the MIAA Division 2 State Championships at MIT on February 14.
On the boys’ side, Belchertown finished second, highlighted by a school-record 200 medley relay win and Ryan Shea’s individual title in the 50-yard freestyle.
J.R. Zlogar earned two second-place finishes, and Ryan Gould placed third in the 100 free.
Liam Bliss of Turners Falls was the lone Thunder swimmer to qualify for state, finishing fifth in the 100 breaststroke and eighth in the 50 free.
