Utah author Kouri Richins faces murder charges in her husband’s 2022 fentanyl-poisoning death, with defense seeking venue change due to widespread jury bias.
Kouri Richins, a Utah children’s book author, faces murder charges in the 2022 death of her husband, Eric Richins, allegedly poisoned with fentanyl-laced drinks.
Her defense has filed a last-minute motion seeking a change of venue, arguing that over 85% of potential jurors in Summit County recognize the case and about 60% have followed it closely, making it impossible to seat an impartial jury.
After removing biased or familiar jurors, only about 72 remain—far fewer than the 43 needed for a felony trial.
The defense also alleges prosecutors intimidated a key witness.
Jury selection begins February 10, with trial set for February 23 before Judge Richard Mrazik, who has not yet ruled on the motion.
