Two TB and 18 COVID-19 cases reported at El Paso immigration detention center amid ongoing health and safety concerns.
Two active tuberculosis cases and 18 COVID-19 cases have been confirmed at Camp East Montana, a 5,000-bed immigration detention facility in El Paso operated by Acquisition Logistics LLC, according to U.S. Rep. Veronica Escobar.
The facility, housing about 3,100 detainees including many with chronic health conditions, has faced ongoing criticism over medical neglect, unsafe conditions, and three migrant deaths—two of which, including Geraldo Lunas Campos, were ruled homicides.
The outbreaks, involving airborne diseases, have raised public health concerns amid plans to build two new large detention centers in El Paso County and Dallas.
ICE has not responded to requests for comment.
