Taoiseach Micheál Martin has announced he will lead Fianna Fáil into the next general election following criticism over the withdrawal of the party’s presidential candidate, Jim Gavin.
Martin acknowledged party frustration and emphasized a commitment to moving forward.
In an interview, he condemned Donald Trump’s immigration enforcement policies, calling the use of ICE in communities excessive and unjustified, though he defended attending the White House St Patrick’s Day event as part of ongoing diplomatic engagement.
He stressed that participation does not imply endorsement and reiterated Ireland’s openness to a future visit by Trump, including a potential address to the Dáil.
The Taoiseach is also set to open a new facility supporting homeless individuals.
