Tan Sri Simon Sipaun, a 88-year-old Sabah rights advocate and former state secretary, died on February 8, 2026, in Kota Kinabalu from pneumonia and related complications.
He served as Sabah’s state secretary from 1988 to 1993 and was vice-chairman of Suhakam from 2003 to 2010.
Known for his advocacy on democracy, governance, and Sabah’s rights under the Malaysia Agreement 1963, he was a respected figure in public service and civil society.
A wake will be held in Penampang, followed by a funeral Mass on Tuesday at the Church of Mary Immaculate.
