Punjab police launched "Operation Prahar-2," a 72-hour crackdown targeting wanted criminals and foreign-based gangsters, deploying 12,000 officers across 2,000 teams.
The operation, part of ongoing efforts to combat organized crime and drug trafficking, aims to extradite 38 of 61 gangsters operating abroad and recover assets linked to illicit funds.
Since January, over 5,290 arrests have been made under the operation, while 45,000 people have been arrested in the anti-drug campaign, including 3,000 major suppliers and 65 hawala operators, with 2,150 kg of heroin seized.
Police have also taken action against online threats, suspending 3,500 arms licenses and removing 10,000 threatening URLs.
Punjab’s crime rate remains below the national average, officials say, despite recent violent incidents.
