Prime Minister Narendra Modi met with 97-year-old INA veteran Jeyaraj Raja Rao in Kuala Lumpur, calling the encounter “deeply inspiring.” He honored Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose and the sacrifices of INA fighters, many of whom were Indian diaspora members in Southeast Asia who joined the freedom struggle without ever visiting India.
Modi acknowledged Malaysia’s efforts to preserve Netaji’s legacy, including renaming the Indian Cultural Centre in his honor and supporting organizations dedicated to his memory.
The meeting highlighted the enduring historical ties between India and the Indian community in Malaysia, where the INA was formed and strengthened during World War II, including the all-women Rani of Jhansi Regiment.
The visit also reinforced strategic and cultural cooperation between the two nations.
