He was climbing with a foreign tourist when he fell nearly 400 meters, sustaining fatal injuries.
Shah, a seasoned climber with four 8,000-meter peak summits including K2 and Nanga Parbat, had climbed Gasherbrum I without supplemental oxygen in 2025.
His body was recovered by local volunteers and returned to his hometown of Shimshal for burial.
The region, home to five of the world’s 14 highest peaks, has seen multiple climbing fatalities in recent years.
