In February 2026, over 3,000 people, including Hindus and local Buddhists, gathered in Maungdaw, Rakhine State, Myanmar, for the 75th Maha Ramayana Harinama Ram chanting festival at Kyaukpantu mountain, a site linked to the Ramayana epic.
Organized by the Maungdaw Hindu affairs committee with support from the Arakan People’s Revolutionary Government and security by the Arakan Army, the four-day event featured religious chants, prayers to Hanuman, vegetarian meals, and free healthcare.
The celebration, held under the Arakan Army’s control since late 2024, reflects efforts to preserve Hindu traditions amid ongoing conflict and marks a shift from previous military rule.
