Nigeria’s INEC successfully tested its BVAS system in a mock election, ensuring smooth voter accreditation and results transmission ahead of the Feb. 21, 2026, polls.
INEC conducted a successful mock election exercise in Nigeria’s Federal Capital Territory using its Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS), testing voter accreditation, results transmission, and logistical readiness ahead of the February 21, 2026, area council elections.
Chairman Prof. Joash Amupitan praised the BVAS for accrediting voters in five seconds or less and preventing duplicate voting, calling it a “game changer” for electoral integrity.
The exercise, held across 289 polling units, identified no major technical issues, with backup mobile hotspots deployed to ensure results transmission, especially in rural areas.
While awaiting final approval of an Electoral Act amendment enabling real-time results upload, INEC emphasized ongoing training, civic education, and the importance of political parties boosting voter participation.
Observers from major parties were present, and voters reported smooth operations.
