Indonesia has secured Saudi Arabia’s approval to build a dedicated Hajj complex in Mecca, becoming the first foreign nation allowed to own land there for the pilgrimage.
President Prabowo Subianto announced the project at a centenary event in East Java, stating Saudi Arabia revised its laws to permit the move.
The initiative, managed by state fund Danantara, includes purchasing the Novotel Thakher Makkah hotel and five hectares of land, with plans to expand from 1,461 to over 6,000 rooms across 16 towers.
The first phase aims to be completed within three years, offering affordable, high-quality accommodations to reduce Hajj costs and improve access for Indonesian Muslims.
