India and the U.S. agree to cut tariffs on Indian gemstones and textiles, boosting exports and aiming for $500 billion in trade by 2030.
India and the U.S. have reached an interim trade agreement reducing tariffs on Indian gemstones, textiles, and other exports, with cut and polished diamonds and colored gemstones now eligible for zero duty.
The 18% tariff on finished jewellery and textiles remains temporarily, but industry leaders welcome the move as a major boost to exports, which had declined sharply under a 50% tariff.
The deal aims to increase bilateral trade to $500 billion by 2030 and enhances India’s competitiveness against countries like China and Vietnam.
