Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced India will open its first consulate in Malaysia during a two-day visit, strengthening bilateral ties. He extended Overseas Citizenship of India (OCI) eligibility to sixth-generation Malaysian citizens of Indian origin, a move celebrated by the diaspora. Modi also introduced Thiruvalluvar Scholarships for Malaysian students, promoted the Know India Program, and announced plans to extend India’s UPI digital payment system to Malaysia. He praised the Indian community’s cultural contributions, visited a heritage exhibition, and highlighted cooperation in economic, digital, cultural, and people-to-people domains under the IMPACT framework.
