India is advancing its quantum ambitions through a Rs 6,000 crore National Quantum Mission, aiming to build a 1,000-qubit quantum computer and a 2,000-kilometer quantum communication network within eight years.
The initiative involves 43 institutions across 17 states and two Union Territories, organized into four hubs focused on computing, communication, sensing, and materials.
Union Minister Dr Jitendra Singh emphasized the technology’s strategic value for national security, cybersecurity, and healthcare, highlighting improved central-state cooperation, including the swift completion of the National Centre for Ocean Sciences in Visakhapatnam.
